Avenues of Service
2010-2011
Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Truckee recognizes and promotes active "Avenues of Service". Each club designates Chairpersons to coordinate the activities of their respective Avenue of Service. If you have an interest in participating in one of these areas contact the chairperson.
CLUB SERVICE - Dawn Evans and Andy Barr
This committee is the backbone of our Club. They provide the infrastructure and service to the club members. Some of the tasks they oversee are: Attendance, Classification, Membership Development., Meeting Programs, Rotary Rag (weekly bulletin), Club Historian, Public Relations, Sergeant-at-Arms, Interclub Designee, Photographer and Rotary Information for proposed members.
In addition, Club Service coordinates the following events: District Governor's visits Club Softball, Interclub Golf, Loyalton BBQ & Tour de Cross, Club Auction, Holiday Party, Charter Night, Annual Ski Race, Awards Night and the President's Demotion.
The Past President's Committee also serves under the Club Service banner. This group is comprised of all the Club's Past Presidents, current year President and President elect. This group selects a slate of members to serve as upcoming Presidents, and may also offer advice and guidance to the current President.
It is important to emphasize that no money raised within the community is used to fund events that come under the Club Service banner. Fines and Club Auctions augment the cost of some of the events. Many of these intra-club activities help build camaraderie , retain and celebrate our Club's history and collective memories.
COMMUNITY SERVICE - Erin Winters and Jeff Ridgel
The Community Service Chairpersons oversee a number of community based activities, fundraisers and events. The Cadillac Ball is the single largest fundraiser for our club, and the community's most prestigious and highly anticipated social event. Planning, coordinating and hosting the Ball requires participation of every Truckee Rotarian, and the Cadillac Ball Chairperson Tally Brand oversees several committees including Ticket Sales, Raffle, Decorations, Silent Auction and more.
Proceeds from the Cadillac Ball fund selected charities and needs within our community for the entire budget year. The single largest recipient of funds from the Ball is the Club's "legacy" project, Our Truckee River Legacy.

International Service is a key element in every Rotary Club. Rotary International recognizes the importance of supporting our community, while reaching out to others around the world. The fourth Avenue of Service encourages Rotarians, and by extension of their community, to think globally, to see the world as a whole, and to use their resources to achieve international understanding, goodwill , and peace. The International Project will vary from club to club.
Rotary Youth Exchange
Each school year the Rotary Club of Truckee and the Sunrise Rotary participate in hosting an exchange student (typically age 15-19) from another country. This task involves setting up host homes for the student to live during the year, as well as coordinating activities for the student outside the school. Each Rotarian is asked to consider hosting a student for 3 months in their home, and sharing our customs and community with the student. This is considered one of the most satisfying roles a Rotarian can undertake, and can result in friendships that last a lifetime. contact Alan Marshall
NEW GENERATIONS - Alan Marshall
New Generations is aptly named because the focus is on children and young adults, and how Rotary interfaces with the youth of our community. For more information about New Generations contact Alan Marshall
