After much discussion, the decision has been made to postpone Crab Feed due to COVID-19 concerns. While we hope to reschedule later this spring, we will need to monitor the situation in the coming weeks before committing to a new date.

All tickets will be refunded in the same manner they were purchased.

As Rotarians, we have a duty to keep our community healthy by taking the appropriate actions to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. After reviewing the guidelines put out by the California Department of Public Health and on the recommendation of various officials, the decision to postpone Crab Feed was made for the following reasons:
  • The format of the event puts many people in very close contact, exacerbated by the fact it is a buffet, with food prepared and served by volunteers without any formal food service/safety training.
  • At 400+ the event is one of the largest events in our community this spring, attended by residents considered "at risk" of serious illness, or if not high risk themselves, are in daily contact with residents who are.
  • The event is attended by visitors from outside our local community, including residents of counties such as Placer and Washoe, which do have confirmed COVID cases.
  • While it is extremely unfortunate, causing financial hardship to both to Truckee Rotary and CATT Community Project (the event's nonprofit beneficiary), Crab Feed is ultimately a "non-essential" event. We hope the event can be held at later date in order to minimize some of this hardship.
  • If an outbreak occurs locally in the next two weeks prior to the event, attendance would be dismal, creating even greater financial hardship.
  • The liability issues of holding an event of this nature, in disregard of recommendations from the CDPH and other officials, are severe.
Stay healthy!
